I'm from NZ and our rivers are under ...Hi all,<br /><br />I'm from NZ and our rivers are under the pump like yours up in Canada. Our government is pulling swifties on us left right and centre and we're looking at losing some real gems in the next five years too, which is a shame. <br /><br />We also have a number of classic runs (in the North Island) that flow on release as part of the conditions of the Resource Consent and in many case these provide a wonderful community feel as everyone turns up on the same days from around the countryside and we all get to catch up and bomb some fun runs.<br /><br />While there are sometimes recreational spin-offs from these projects I want to state firmly that these concessions can only be enjoyed after fighting the flooding of wild rivers to the last. I know Canada is big but you can't afford to let the special places go because recreational boaters get something out of it. That is the same mentality that gets us the dam in the first place. Rivers have value wild and free that we cannot place a value on, neither with $$ or any type of sentiment as we just don't have the capacity. Respect and live with them.<br /><br />Enjoy the flows and I'll probably see you on one in the next couple of years :)Jeremynoreply@blogger.com
